On Saturday, Amtrak’s reservation system was hacked and ticket prices skyrocketed in Vegas, prompting a wave of cancellations.
The hack led to a surge in the number of cancellates, which are often a sign of a problem.
Amtrak’s system is a bit more robust now than it was a few months ago.
Here’s how to use the system and when to cancel your reservation.
First, you need to create a reservation.
Go to Amtrak.com/reservations and click on the “Reservations” tab.
Then select “Create a new reservation” and enter your Amtrak reservation number and expiration date.
When you create your reservation, you’ll see an “Edit Reservation” option.
The next page asks if you want to create an email for your reservation to be sent to you.
Click “Create Email.”
If you click “Add,” you’ll be prompted to enter a name for your email.
If you select “Yes,” your email will be automatically generated.
You’ll be sent an email within an hour.
This email will contain instructions on how to purchase Amtrak tickets.
You can use this email to purchase tickets through Amtrak or the online Amtrak Ticket Exchange.
For the rest of the day, you can still use your Amtrak ticketing account.
Amtrak does not allow you to buy or sell tickets in the ticket office.
You may purchase tickets by phone.
To call Amtrak Ticket Office, call 1-800-829-4227 or visit Amtrak.org/ticketoffice.
Amtrak offers online tickets at http://ticket.americanrailroads.com.
You don’t need to have a reservation to use Amtrak’s online ticketing system.
You just need to use a mobile device with an Android or iOS app.
To purchase tickets from an Amtrak ticket office, visit AmtrakTickets.com and follow the instructions to purchase your ticket.

If the Amtrak ticket offices have a list of your scheduled Amtrak tickets, you should print out the tickets.
Then fill out the ticket forms.
For information on how Amtrak handles cancellation, see the Amtrak Ticketing FAQs.
If Amtrak Ticket Offices have a problem, you may need to call Amtrak.
You should print a copy of the ticket for your records.
