The Grand Rapids Hockey Club is in the midst of a $2.8 million expansion project that will include two new arenas and a new facility.
The Grand Rapids Griffins will play at The Palace of Auburn Hills in suburban Detroit beginning in 2018.
The new facility will replace the old Auburn Hills Ice Arena, which opened in 2014.
The arena will be open during the summer months, and the Griffins are set to play at it for the first time in more than a decade.
Grand Rapids Mayor Don Iveson says the project will create millions of jobs, and provide an additional revenue stream for the city of Grand Rapids.
The project also is expected to create at least 100 construction jobs.
The Palace of Birmingham, the former home of the Grand Slam of Bowling, will host the 2019-20 regular season and playoffs.
The new arena will seat 50,000 and will be a $10 million facility.
The Palace has hosted concerts and events in the past.
